Lavender - poor choice for Eastern San Francisco

MBLC offers consulting services for evaluation of landscape design plans - a very useful tool if you've got a planting plan that's expensive, and you won't have dollars available later on for replanting due to poor plant choices. Here's an example of what can happen when the knowledge we have gained over many years is rejected.

The building owner asked us to evaluate the plant palette proposed for their new building, and we strongly advised against using Lavender. It's a beautiful plant - but we know it doesn't do well on the east side of San Francisco

. The landscape architect rejected our advice and stuck with the Lavender. Here's what the planting looks like less than 3 months after it was planted. 1/3 of the bed is dead or dying; we give the remaining plants less than a year. It will cost over $300 just to replant this single bed! Do it right the first time and save many dollars later on.
